Soccer ~ Absolutely Brilliant

My holidays have pretty much revolved around the soccer. It's been over a week now and I'm still staying up late and waking up very very very late. It's great. At least with the soccer on, I have something to do. It may not be productive but it's something hehe.

I woke up at 4:30am to watch the game between Australia and Croatia a couple of days ago. It was a special game. When you've seen the struggle of Australia trying to make the World Cup for so many years and always missing out at the final qualifying stage, you just can't help but feel how special each game is for them. I've definitely found another favourite team now besides Denmark. The game had its highs and lows but in the end, the awesome strike from Harry Kewell gave Australia the draw. Since Brazil had beaten Japan, it meant that Australia qualified for the round of 16. When Harry scored that goal I felt so overwhelmed. The feeling was amazing and I can't wait to watch the game against Italy.

Talking about soccer still, yesterday I watched a documentary about David Beckham. It was entitled "David Beckham - A Footballers Story". I loved Beckham's set piece strikes since watching him play for Manchester United but I was always in doubt of his character. Before I watched the documentary, I thought he was somewhat like Shane Warne who abused the power he earnt due to his talent in cricket. After I watched the documentary, my view of him has changed immensely. I have so much more respect for him now and I think he is a superstar. I put a clip of his strike against Greece below. This was a game which needed to be at least drawn for England to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. The score was 2 - 1 in favour of Greece. It was the 93rd minute and Beckham had one shot to put England into the World Cup. Check out what he did.

Here is a video that someone made after Beckham signed up for Real Madrid. As you can see, it's by a Manchester United fan.

Finally, this is the goal that Beckham scored from the half way line. The picture is a bit fuzzy but you'll know he scored hehe.

Hope you all are enjoying your break. I'm still looking for things to do because once the world cup finishes, I'll be bored like crazy. Take care everyone. I hope to catch up with some of you during the break.
